Glaucoma (Ocular Hypertension)

Glaucoma, also known as the “silent thief of sight,” is caused by abnormally high pressure inside the eye due to an imbalance in the production and drainage of aqueous humor. Normal eye pressure ranges between 10 and 20 mmHg, and when it remains elevated, it can damage the optic nerve and lead to gradual, often unnoticed, vision loss.

Warning signs (especially in advanced cases) may include:

  • Frequent or chronic headaches
  • Blurred vision or seeing halos around lights
  • Eye pain (especially during acute episodes)
  • Nausea and vomiting in cases of sudden pressure spikes

Available treatment options include:

  • Eye drops to reduce fluid production or improve drainage
  • Oral medications for advanced or resistant cases
  • Laser therapy as an effective option if drops are insufficient
  • Surgical procedures to enhance fluid drainage, typically considered for complex or unresponsive cases

At Ishraq Eye Center, we provide comprehensive glaucoma care; from early diagnosis and regular monitoring to state-of-the-art treatment, to protect your vision and manage the condition effectively.
